Penny and (I believe) her son met us and were very generous and informative. The unit was sweet and rustic and comfortable. My only regret is we didn’t have occasion to use the real fireplace! The location is just outside Beacon and practically a straight shot from Main St.
We had a great stay at the base camp. Andrew picked us up at the train station and later brought us to Dia which is a must see. We were able to walk back to the base camp from dinner so that was great. We live in the city and are avid walkers so for us it was fine. It does get a little dark as you get close to the house so our iPhone flashlights were very helpful! It was a fun town and we even took a trip to Storm King from there. We used a car service. Andrew told us he would have driven us if …
Base Camp is a beautiful home in a beautiful setting, at the base of Mt. Beacon. Andrew is a great host, making himself readily available to talk or for advice concerning the town, but also equally unavailable if you’re priority is privacy. The home is rustic, charming and cozy. Andrew had snacks, coffee and tea ready upon arrival, as well as a ready to make fire in the wood burning stove. I’d highly recommend his location as a private get away.
The space was very cozy with a wood burning fireplace stocked with wood, jazz music playing on the stereo and a large oversized couch for curling up with one of the many books on the bookshelf. The coffee, tea, bagels, butter and toaster were a nice touch and much appreciated during our relaxing morning. The location was very pretty– a beautiful property and very quiet, and just a mile from Main St. The pillows on the bed weren’t great, but everything else was perfect.
Penelope and Andrew were great hosts. The setting is beautiful and the apartment is very cozy and exactly as described. I wished we had been able to stay longer to enjoy the hiking trail nearby!
Andrew’s place was great! Very cozy and everything we were looking for on a romantic Valentines. He was a friendly host and even drove us into town to get back to the train station. (He would have picked us up too, but he was snowed in at the time of our arrival. Ha.) We wished we had stayed the whole weekend!
We had a lovely time. The house is far enough from town to feel like a retreat in the woods and close enough to still be accessible for going out, shopping, etc… Both andrew and Penelope were accommodating and kind. It was quiet, well decorated and supplied as well as comfortable. We will definitely consider staying there again if we were to go up to the area!
Our host was generous and thoughtful. We had a wonderful experience.
We had a quick stay but it was great – Penelope was there to help us in, and very kind and accommodating. From the back yard you can hike right in to Mt Beacon which was great.
Penelope’s guest house was absolutely adorable. It was very spacious and my only regret is that we didn’t get to spend more time in it. Penelope was also a wonderful host – left us food for breakfast and some snacks which was very sweet. I also got a chance to hike up the trail behind the house (which Penelope’s son gave me some tips on) and it was a great hike. The bed was also very comfortable. Would highly recommend to anyone.
